Level Highlights
Story/Gameplay
An important COG base is being overwhelmed by Locusts and Marcus is one of the few soldiers left in the field who can fend off the attack. Marcus must venture to the heart of the base, where a Brumak threatens to take out the crucial supplies. To make things worse, night approaches and the Kryll and ensuing darkness will complicate the mission.
The player assumes the role of Marcus, but the gameplay has shifted to the style of a 2D side-scrolling shooter. The player can shoot enemies in the mid-ground and background and faces movement puzzles instead of the standard Gears of War play style.

Design Goals
- Create new camera and checkpoint system
- Create new health system
- Create new enemies and enemy behaviors
- Resemble gameplay from games like Contra and Shadow Complex
- Change controls to fit new gameplay
- Script a short and simple boss fight against a large foe
Player Experience Goals
- Enjoy the same Gears of War combat experience, but with a different and new gameplay style that makes it feel like a stand-alone game
- Quickly understand the control scheme and other new systems
- Quickly understand and enjoy the new enemy types and simplistic puzzles
- Enjoy the hectic moments without being overwhelmed, but also have fun surpassing the puzzles at their own pace
- Feel accomplished by learning and dodging the end boss's attacks and defeating it at the end of the level
