About
From designing and implementing kids' characters in an action RPG to recreating memorable boss fights in a nostalgic platformer to designing and implementing an end-game raid boss in a beloved FPS, I have 6+ years shipping quality combat experiences.
My primary focus includes designing and scripting fun, replayable, and unique combat experiences. I've worked on character abilities and upgrade paths to an entire teamwork-focused and challenging multi-phase boss encounter.
I love creating ability skill sets that have obvious uses, but also allow for creative and adaptive play. I use the same reasoning when I design AI abilities. I want the players to quickly identify the play patterns and the strategies required to overcome the obstacles. I truly believe that players will play the game how they want to play it, not necessarily the way the designers would play it. This is why I ensure that players will have fun doing what they want to do while they progress through the game. I am a firm believer in counter-play and that any ability needs to be fun for the user without destroying the fun of other players.
I am able to script unique encounters or character abilities with help from my computer science degree that I obtained at Vanderbilt University and my inherent logic and reasoning skills. I obtained my Master in Interactive Technology, specialization in Level Design at SMU's Guildhall program and graduated in December 2011. I am so interested in how player's think and what they might do, that I had my thesis revolve around player choices.
